Carol Edith Gilmour Kolb was born on June 7, 1933, to Wilbur and Leona (George) Gilmour on a farm in Rural Silver Creek Township.  She went to country school just down the road, with all her neighbors.  She then attended and graduated from Ida Grove High School with the class of 1952.

On January 18, 1953, Carol was united into marriage to Jim D. Kolb in the Presbyterian Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Moving to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where Jim was stationed with the Army, the couple welcomed their first child, daughter Kathy.  When Jim was discharged from the service the family relocated back to the farm North of Arthur, Iowa. Carol and Jim were blessed with three more children, Curt, Patty, and Pam.

Carol was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Silver Creek Homemaker Club. She bowled on a women’s league with her neighborhood friends in Ida Grove for many years.  She was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary.   In her younger years, alongside her dad and sister, she was part of the Sac City All Palamino Drill Team.

Carol spent her life working alongside her husband as a farm wife.  An accomplished baker, she will be remembered for her delectable crazy cake and other goodies.  Carol spent countless hours watching both her children and grandchildren at all their sporting events.  Carol enjoyed spending time with her family, especially adventures with her granddaughters. She also enjoyed taking trips to Branson, playing UNO, playing bingo, her horses, flower gardening, her many pets, completing numerous crossword puzzles and most of all spending time on her century farm, where she was brought into the world and left this world surrounded by her loved ones.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 63 years Jim D. Kolb of Lake View, Iowa; children, Pamela (Joe) Cobb of Galva, Iowa and Kathleen (Michael) Laferriere of Mars Hill, North Carolina; granddaughters, Ashley (Nick) Petersen, Meghan Cobb, Bailey Cobb, and Larissa Laferriere; sister, Dorothy (Myron) Franzmeier of Storm Lake, Iowa; extended family and friends.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents Wilbur and Leona Gilmour; son, Curtis D. Kolb; and daughter, Patricia D. Wieben.
