Jerry Steuk, age 75, of Ida Grove, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017 at his residence of Ida Grove, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a prayer service held at 7:30 p.m., Monday, January 23, 2017 at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. The Reverend Richard A. Salcido will officiate the prayer service. The Christensen - Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Jerald “Jerry” Steuk the son of Clifton and Verona (Schug) Steuk was born on December 17, 1941 in Grant Township, Ida County, Iowa, on the family farm. He was baptized in his Lutheran faith on January 11, 1942 and confirmed in his faith on March 27, 1955.

Growing up, Jerry help out on the farm while attending country school and graduated from Ida Grove High School with the class of 1959. After high school Jerry stared farming with his father and later on his own for twenty years. Retiring from farming in 1980, Jerry went to drive truck for Mau Trucking of Ida Grove and then later for GT Trucking of Schaller, Iowa.

Jerry married Rita Carlberg on August 30, 1959 in the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove. The couple made their home on a farm outside of Battle Creek, Iowa and were blessed with four children: Jim, Brent, Mike and Pam. The couple later parted ways.

On April 8, 1988, Jerry married Ellen Backerman in South Lake Tahoe, California. Jerry welcomed Ellen’s three children: Denise, Shawn, and Phil. The couple made their home in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Jerry enjoyed a long drag of a cigar and a cold beverage at the end of the day, trips to the casino, gardening, fishing and spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clifton and Verona Steuk; son, Brent Steuk; brother, Curtis Steuk in infancy; parents-in-law, Harvey and Lois Backerman; and step daughter, Denise Johnson.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Ellen Steuk of Ida Grove, IA; children: Jim (Rhonda) Steuk of Denison, IA, Mike Steuk of Cheyenne, WY, and Pam Steuk of Ida Grove, Iowa; step children: Shawn (Curt) Hohenberger of Waterloo, IA, Phil (Malinda) Johnson of Minburn, IA; six grandchildren and seven step grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and twelve step great grandchildren; brother, Jon ( Paula) Steuk of Early, IA; sister, Diane (Jim) Snyder of Bridgeport, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

“So sorry to here about Jerry's death. I ran many trips with Jerry out to California. He was a good man. After Mau trucking I used to take trips down to Ida Grove and tip a few with him at the hillside. The last time I seen him was around 7 years ago at the Mau reunion.
