Deborah “Deb” Adel (Thornhill) Cranston, the daughter of Esther (Stamp) and Vernon Thornhill was born on November 8, 1947, in Ida Grove, Iowa.  Deb graduated from Ida Grove High School with the class of 1965.

On June 7, 1969, Deb married the love of her life Jeffery “Jeff” Cranston at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. The couple were blessed with two children Derick and Kelly. Deb worked with her husband Jeff in their farming business and dedicated her life to her family. She enjoyed being a stay at home mother and spent countless hours running after her children attending all their school functions and sporting events. She became a huge supporter of the Athletic Boosters and worked many of the events she attended well after her children had graduated.

Deb was a faithful member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church of Odebolt, Iowa. She served as a lector, lay minister, taught CCD, and often led the rosary at Saturday night mass. Deb was instrumental in promoting and organizing the turkey supper every year and served as treasurer for this large event.

Deb was very easy to talk and had great advice for anyone who asked. Her tie to the youth of the community through sports and Wednesday night CCD helped her make a difference in many lives.

Deb took great pride in her grandchildren and was so proud of all that they had accomplished. She always looked forward to their visits and attending as many of their school functions as she could. Deb loved to host a big event for her family at King’s Point on Thanksgiving, where many fond memories were made.

Deb will be remembered for her caring, gentle and generous ways as well as her bottomless candy dish and endless supply of pop for all who passed through her door.

Deb is preceded in death by her parents and sister Dorothy “Dot” Brown. Left to cherish her memory is her devoted husband of 47 years, Jeff Cranston of Odebolt, IA; children Deacon Derick (Kim) Cranston of Kalona, IA and Kelly (Tracey) Rohlk of Ida Grove, IA; five grandchildren: Chance (Taylor) Rohlk of Lawton, IA, Garrett, Trey and Leyton Rohlk of Ida Grove, IA, and Angel Cranston of Kalona, IA; brothers Kenny (Anne) Thornhill and Mike (Robin) Thornhill all of Ida Grove, IA; sisters Marlene (Darrell) Benningsdorf of Ida Grove, IA and Sandy (Vern) Olberding of Spencer, IA; brother-in-law Steve Brown of Ida Grove, IA; and extended family and friends.

“I will always remember when I was in Desert Storm I tried to call my mom and dad one time and wasn't able to get a hold of them, but needed to talk to someone. So I called Deb and was able to talk to her and she cheered me up. It wasn't to long after that, that I got a care package from her with all the good stuff a mom would send her son. I would stop in to see her when ever I would come home on leave. It was like having a second mom. I will miss her dearly. From all the Mace family we would like to send our condolences and wish the entire Cranston family our best. ”
