Ruth C. Roeder, age 99, of Ida Grove, Iowa, formerly of Arthur, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove, Iowa.


A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Father Richard D. Ball will officiate. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 5:00p.m.to7:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 5:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 24, 2017 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Ruth Clara Roeder was born on the family farm in rural Arthur on July 24, 1917, the daughter of John and Clara (Bicksler) Miller. She attended rural country school and St. Martin’s Catholic school. On August 27, 1941 Ruth married Raymond John Roeder at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Odebolt, Iowa. The couple made their home on the family farm east of Arthur where Raymond had been born and farmed his entire life.

Ruth was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. She was on the ladies altar guild and belonged to numerous clubs. Ruth enjoyed fishing, gardening, sewing, painting, playing cards and visiting with friends and family. She was a devoted farm wife, mother, and grandmother.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Ron (Marilyn) Roeder of Arthur, Iowa, Dennis (Deanna) Roeder of Ida Grove, Iowa, Ken (Suzanne) of De Smet, South Dakota, Gary (Carol) Roeder of Arthur, Iowa, and Joann (Dean) Hauser of Tampa, Florida; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild on the way; sister Florence Wunschel of Ida Grove, Iowa; brother Don Miller of Odebolt, Iowa; sister-in-law Vera Miller of North Carolina; extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond Roeder; infant son, Jerry; infant sister Alice; sisters: Rose Terlisner, Blanche Thies, Pearl Roll, Frances Vaughn; brothers Leo Miller and Vin Miller.
