Beverly Winquist the daughter of John and Lucile (Paulsen) Fries was born on September 17, 1930 in Blaine Township, rural Ida Country. Bev’s parents were farmers and she attended country school in Blaine and Hayes Township through the 8th grade. She attended Arthur High School and was active in mixed Glee Club, School Plays, and would cheer her school on as a cheerleader. She graduated with the class of 1949 and went on to further her education at the University of Northern Iowa. After schooling at UNI, Bev taught country school for three years.

On June 2, 1951, Bev married Dwight Winquist at the Arthur Baptist Church. The couple were blessed with two children Gerald (Jerry) and Julie. The family farmed and Bev helped by driving tractors and helping with the farm work.

Beverly was a people person. As a young person she belonged to 4H and joined the Arthur Baptist Church at the age of twelve. She later became a faithful member of the Kiron Baptist Church of Kiron, where she taught Sunday school and served in many other ways.

Bev was active in the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary of Kiron, Horn Memorial Auxiliary, a 4H Leader, and served on the Ida County 4H extension council.  When Jerry and Julie left home to start their adult lives, Bev decided to go to work outside of the home. She worked at Morningside Care Center as a Nurse’s Aide and later as the activity Director for the Odebolt Nursing Home. Bev’s children and grandchildren were the love of her life.

When they retired, they spent their retirement in Tucson, Arizona six months out of the year and made many new friends from all over the U.S. and Canada.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Julie Petersen and husband Darwin of Ida Grove,  Iowa; grandchildren Lindsey Henderson and husband Mike, Megan Prunchak and husband Eli, and Skyler Winquist and wife Sarah; brother Harlan Fries and wife Joan of Holstein, Iowa; sister Joan Johnson and husband Hardy of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

“Sorry to hear of your mother's death. I remember her most from her days at Colonial Manor when my brother was there. She always had a smile and found many things to laugh about which is a rare gift for employees of nursing homes. May God's comfort come and settle over you like a warm, soft blanket as you celebrate a life well lived.”

“Julie, may you know God's presence with you these days. May you sense His embrace as you learn to live without the presence of your mother, Beverly and my cousin. I am so glad I was able to spend a brief time with you and Beverly on my last trip to the States. Her infectious laughter and contributions to any conversation always made for a great time when together. Strength to you and family. Love, Margie Gustafson ”

“We are incredibly saddened to learn of Bev's passing. She was a treasured co-worker many years ago and has always remained a favorite. Caring, never shy about voicing her opinion...she made us all better and we were blessed to know her. We mourn her departure from this earthly life but we know she had full confidence in eternal life with her Savior, Jesus Christ. May you find comfort in your memories of a life well lived. Thinking of you with loving sympathy.

“You have my sympathy Julie. I always enjoyed you mom when she came to the rec center and watching her walk down the steps into the water testing the water in case it was cold. It was neat. You and your family are in my prayers.”
