Darren Ray Minor, age 49, of Battle Creek, Iowa, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017, at his residence of Battle Creek, Iowa.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4:30 p.m., Friday, July 28, 2017, at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. Rev. Kevin J. Freese will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Battle Creek, Iowa. A visitation will be held on hour prior to the Memorial Service from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday, July 28, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, Iowa. The Christensen - Van Houten Funeral Home of Battle Creek and Ida Grove, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Condolences may be sent online at www.christensenvanhouten.com


Darren Ray Minor, the son of Rolland and Linda J. (Wonder) Minor was born on November 1, 1967, in the Hartley Hospital of Battle Creek, Iowa. Darren attended grade school and part of middle school in Battle Creek before relocating to Quinton, Oklahoma to live with his father. Darren attended and graduated from Quinton High School.

After high school Darren married Tamara Cravens. The couple made their home in Quinton and then in Hawarden, Iowa. Darren and Tamara would later part ways. He worked various jobs before becoming disabled.

Darren enjoyed making art, listening to music, spending time with family and friends, and going fishing. His outgoing personality made him easy to talk to. Due to improvements in his health, Darren recently was able to enjoy a trip to Correctionville, Iowa, along with a couple nieces, a nephew, and family for a fun day of swimming which was one of his goals.

Darren was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, two aunts and two uncle.

Left to cherish his memory are his brothers Bradley (Crystal) Minor of Battle Creek, Iowa, Justin (April) Minor, and Jerry Minor both of Quinton, Oklahoma; sister Amy (Jason) Ranes of Quinton, Oklahoma; five nieces, Alyssa, Carli, Sarah, Abby, Journey; two nephews, Brandon and Terry; great-nephew Kayson; numerous aunts, uncles, extended family and friends.
