In Memory of Donald "Don" J. N. Oxendale
Donald J. N. “Don” Oxendale, age 76, of Odebolt, Iowa passed away on Monday, August 6, 2018, at the Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove, Iowa.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 11, 2018 at the United Methodist Church, of Odebolt, Iowa. Rev. Trish Underberg will officiate; with Committal Services following in the Odebolt Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Roose Post No. 313 of the American Legion both of Odebolt, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Friday, August 10, 2018 at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Odebolt, Iowa. Donald J. N. “Don” Oxendale, the son of Norman and Helen (Mauer) Oxendale, was born March 28, 1942, in Odebolt, IA. His parents moved to the farm and Don attended country school through the third grade. He then attended school in Odebolt and graduated from Odebolt High School with the class of 1960. After high school, Don attended one year of college and then returned home to manage his parents’ farm and did short haul trucking on the side.
In 1964, Don was drafted into the U.S. Army. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Odebolt and continued farming. On June 28, 1969, Don was united in marriage to Mary Jane Hink at St. Joseph’s Church in Wall Lake, IA.
Don was an active member and supporter of 4-H. He helped form the Northwest Iowa Sheep Telemarketing, served on the Odebolt Methodist Church Board and was a member of the Odebolt American Legion. In September of 2017, Don was a part of the Brushy Creek Honor Flight that took veterans to Washington, D.C. to the WWII, Korean, Vietnam, Iwo Jima Memorials and Arlington Cemetery to honor them for their service.
Left to cherish Don’s memory is his loving wife of 49 years Mary Jane Oxendale of Odebolt, IA; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Norman and Helen Oxendale and brother Ronald Oxendale.
