In Memory of Terry J. Thomson

Terry J. Thomson, age 61, of Arthur, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at his home in Arthur, Iowa.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Father Richard D. Ball will officiate with Committal Services following in the Ida Grove Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Terry J. Thomson was born September 1, 1957, in Ida Grove, Iowa. He was the son of R.D. “Wayne” and Karllynn “Connie” (Kreft) Thomson. Terry grew up on a farm near Ida Grove and received his education at Ida Grove High School graduating with the class of 1975. 

After high school, Terry started farming and began his cattle business. On November 10, 1979, Terry was united in marriage to Carol Gaffney in Omaha, NE. The couple made their home on a farm near Ida Grove. They were blessed with three children: Morgan, Meghan and Judd. Carol fondly referred to her husband as her “love muffin”, which always brought a smirk to his face. 

Terry was a former member of the Ida County Cattleman’s Association and was involved with the Western Iowa Progress Show. He was very proud of his Thomson Club Calves and raising show cattle for 4-H members. Terry was a hard worker who loved being outside working with his cattle. In 1994, Terry and Carol moved to the family farm located north of Arthur, IA where they were currently residing.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife Carol Thomson of Arthur, IA; daughter Morgan (Preston) Youngren of Odebolt, IA and their children Jayden Thomson, Jayston Paulson, Brady, Wynn and Kal Youngren; daughter Meghan Thomson of Omaha, NE; son Judd (Janet) Thomson of Odebolt, IA and their son Teel; sisters JoDee (Jeff) Hewitt and Tammi (Jamie) Hewitt both of Ida Grove, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; aunts and uncles; brother-in-law Jim Owens; niece Michaela Kirkebak; cousins Jerry Thomson and Hannah Thompson.
