Sheila (Fulton) Rohlk, the daughter of Scottish immigrants James and Ellen (Irvine) Fulton arrived February 9, 1936, in Ida Grove, Iowa. She often recalled her father saying she was the only good thing to come out of that year, as it was a time of devastating drought and blizzards. Sheila grew up on the family farm north of Arthur, Iowa and later became the proud owner of this century farm. She delighted in her childhood with keeping up with her older siblings, riding horses, loving her puppies and kittens, and was proud that her parents became American citizens.
This little red-haired girl attended country school at Silver Creek #8 and later moved to town to attend high school. Sheila graduated from Ida Grove High School with the class of 1954 and after graduation she worked as a Deputy Auditor at the Ida County Courthouse. She married a local farm boy Delbert Rohlk on August 17, 1958.
The couple spent most of their married life on a farm south of Ida Grove, where they were blessed with three children in three years, Kyle, Randy, and Jennifer. Sheila found joy in being a devoted wife, mother, and active farm partner. She was at home in a tractor doing field work, livestock chores, cooking, canning, and baking. She will be remembered by many for her famous baked tea rings and special potato salad.
Her children recall her smile and humor, even when things went wrong. She was always the great encourager and looked at the bright side even when life dealt her cancer, loss of vision, and declining health. She was always a role model of courage.
Sheila and Delbert worked hard, but would often escape to their favorite places in the mountains, Alaska, winter trips out West, or to the local dances with friends. The couple moved to town in 1993 but continued to be active farmers.
Sheila was a loyal member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Ida Grove, where she served as an elder and clerk. She was a member of Presbyterian Women, Legion Auxiliary, and Grant Homemakers. Sheila loved tending to her garden, flower beds and planning family events where she treasured spending time with her family.
Sheila is survived by her children Kyle (Mary) Rohlk, Randy (Staci) Rohlk, and Jennifer (Mike) Glawe; grandchildren Brenda (Nick) Melby, Brent (Kayla) Rohlk, Barbara (Lance) Taylor, Emily Glawe (friend Adam), Jordan Rohlk (friend Megan), Erin Glawe (friend Houston), and Autumn Rohlk; great grandchildren Dodge, Kole, Jaxson, Addyson, Kynleigh, and Theodore; dear friend and cousin Dorothy Franzmeier; special nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Welcoming her to her heavenly home are her husband; parents; great grandson Lathen; sisters Janet Riessen and Elizabeth (Bill) Ullrich; brother George (Beverly) Fulton, nephew Jim Ullrich; great nephew James Ullrich, and many extended family members.
Her family mourns not only the loss of a mother, but the loss of a true friend.
