Donald Henry Sievers, the son of Henry and Bertha (Glade) Sievers, was born on June 13, 1925, in Arthur, IA. Don grew up in Arthur and received his education from Arthur High School. He enlisted in to the U.S. Navy his senior year and served a four-year term during which he was assigned to the USS Battleship West Virginia. He was awarded a Bronze Star medal.

Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, Don returned home to Arthur, IA and was a co-owner of Sievers Garage for a number of years with his father. On October 1, 1949, Don was united in marriage to Jeweleen “Peggy” Cox in the Ames Methodist Church of Ames, IA. The couple were blessed with a daughter, Kim. The family made their home in Arthur but would also live in Ida Grove and eventually Odebolt. Don was a bus driver for over 30 years for the Odebolt-Arthur School District. He was also employed at Gomaco for 10 years as a traveling serviceman until retiring in 1996.

Don had a love for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, trapshooting, and reloading shells. He treasured time with his faithful Golden Retriever companion, Dandy. He also enjoyed attending his grandsons’ football games. Don and Peggy loved wintering in Texas for 16 years during their retirement. For the past 3.5 years Don called Odebolt Specialty Care his home. His family is thankful for the wonderful care he received during his stay.

Left to cherish his memory are daughter Kim (Kent) Schroeder of Odebolt, IA; grandsons Kyle Schroeder of Odebolt, IA, Keith (Alli) Schroeder of Sac City, IA and Korey Schroeder of St. Louis Park, MN; great-grandchildren Derek and Mckenna of Sac City, IA and one on the way.

Don was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Bertha Sievers; wife Jeweleen “Peggy” Sievers.

“Kim and family, I had the great pleasure of traveling around with Don during his days at GOMACO. One could always learn something from him. He will be truly missed by everyone that knew him. May he now rest in peace in his heavenly home with Peg. May God bless you had your family and help you though the days ahead.”

“I remember Saturday nights in downtown Arthur and the excitement of exploring with friends Larry and Ken while my parents traded eggs and cream for groceries. Running around the Siever’s garage and “locking” each other in the jail on the lawn were all part of that adventure. Remembering Don as being part of the area communities is a fond memory. As Jennifer said, “We could do things then that wouldn’t be allowed today!” Wonderful memories. Thank you, Don and sympathy and prayers for the family. ”

“Kim and Kent, our condolences and thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Don will always have a special place in my memory from growing up in "downtown Arthur". All of the 'life lessons' learned from those experiences can never be replaced, taught, or replicated. I feel truly blessed for having the opportunity of experiencing them. Don was a big part of those experiences. Rest in Peace

“I remember having Don for our school bus driver when I was in 6th. grade and rode the bus from Odebolt to Arthur and back during the school year. Don spoiled me and let me sit on the engine in the front of the bus, which in this day and age would be a no-no. He was always so polite and sweet. You will be missed Don.”
