Ruth D. Ohlmann, age 93, of Adel, Iowa (formerly of Ida Grove, Iowa) passed away on Friday, April 19, 2019, at the Trinity Center at Luther Park of Des Moines, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 25, 2019, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Reverend Richard A. Salcido & Rev. John Burger will officiate. Committal will follow in the Ida Grove Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa. No Visitation will be held. The Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Ruth D. Ohlmann, the daughter of William and Edna (Horner) Smith, was born on April 26, 1925, in Crookston, Nebraska.
On October 2, 1945, Ruth married Werner “George” Ohlmann in Valentine, Nebraska. To this union two daughters were born Judy and Susan.
Ruth’s sweet and gentle nature made her perfect to care for children. She operated an in-home daycare for numerous years spanning over many generations earning her the title “Grandma Ruth” to many children. Ruth’s most treasured possession in her life was her family. She supported, loved, cared for, and cheered on many athletic events and school activities as their number one fan. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, Bingo, rooting on the Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes, and was an accomplished cook. Ruth was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Legion Auxiliary Post No. 61 of Ida Grove, Iowa.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Judy (Dan) Burgus and Susan (Joe) Keitges, all of Adel, IA; grandchildren: Ryan (Jessica) Burgus, Matt (Tammy) Burgus, John (Mollie) Keitges, and Carrie (Mike) Austin; great-grandchildren: Kirsten (Alex) Denney, Bryelle Burgus, Haley Pettis, Sidney Pettis, Katie Keitges, Brynna Yocom, Luke Keitges, Abbie Keitges, Lexi Austin, Tori Austin, Ella Austin; sister Bonnie Bubke of Cedar Rapids, IA; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents William and Edna Smith; husband Werner “George” Ohlmann; brother William Smith; and granddaughter Gina Keitges.
