Viola Mae (Nobiling) Hill was born July 28, 1929, on the family farm in Wheatland Township, Carroll County, Iowa, the youngest child of William Sr. and Anna (Henrichsen) Nobiling. Viola was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia, Iowa. She attended rural school for two years, then grade school and high school in Arcadia, graduating with the class of 1946. She was employed at Lehman Rexall in Carroll before marriage.

They made their home on the Hill family farm near Manning, Iowa, then moved to a farm near Westside in 1954 and purchased a farm near Schleswig in 1959, where they worked side-by-side, grateful for the opportunity. Life was complete when they were blessed to become the parents of two children, James and Doris.

Viola was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. She loved her family and life on the farm. She enjoyed traveling; was always eager to visit new places. After Harold’s death on November 29, 1991, she continued to live on the farm until moving to Schleswig on April 19, 2005. Viola moved to Ida Grove in November of 2018.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold Hill, daughter-in-law Karen, brothers Elmer (Eva), Orville (Luella), William (Vera) and Edward Nobiling; sisters Charlotte (Alvin) Grundmeier and Ella (Leslie) Stammer.
