In Memory of Marvin D. Lorenzen
Marvin Duane Lorenzen, age 90, of Ida Grove, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at the MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center of Sioux City, Iowa.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 19, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Rev. Chad Lierman will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the Galva Township Cemetery East of Galva, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, August 18, 2019, at the Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. A Masonic Service conducted by the Alpine Lodge #471 A.F. & A.M. will be held at 4:00 p.m. following the visitation. Marvin was born July 5, 1929, to Clifford and Lulu (Clapsaddle) Lorenzen in rural Ida County, IA. He was baptized October 13, 1929 and confirmed June 1943 at the Silver Creek Methodist Church. He attended country school and graduated from the Ida Grove High School with the class of 1947, participating in football and basketball. He attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls for a time.
On July 11, 1950, he married Phyllis Peters at Wheatland Presbyterian Church at rural Breda, IA. They were blessed with five children - Ann, Laurie, Bruce, Kristin and Susan.
Marvin and Phyllis raised their family on a farm south of Arthur, Iowa. They were members of the Arthur United Methodist Church for many years.
Marvin was dedicated to farming. He loved farm life and working with his son. He continued to actively farm until the last couple of years.
Marvin and Phyllis moved to Ida Grove in 1993. They joined the First United Methodist Church of Ida Grove where he was an active church member. He especially enjoyed serving on the planning committee when the new fellowship hall was built. Marvin also enjoyed being a part of the Masonic Lodge in Arthur and later Holstein.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Phyllis and five children: Ann (Paul) DeNeui of Tulsa, OK, Laurie (John) Currie of Odebolt, IA, Bruce (Sandy) Lorenzen of Arthur, IA, Kristin (Harvey) Flewelling of Superior, CO and Susan (David) Fisk of Fredrick, CO. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren: Jeremy DeNeui, Luke (Sarah) DeNeui, Hope (Brandon) Ellis, Bethany DeNeui, Steven (Chelsey) Currie, Mark (Angie) Currie, David (Kelly) Currie, Mindy (Cory) Miller, Holly Lorenzen, Lindsey Flewelling, Jordan Flewelling, Claire Fisk and Lauren Fisk and 15 great grandchildren: Noah and Isabella DeNeui, Bo, Demory, Raef and Megan Ellis, Kellen and Aaron Currie, Elliott and Claire Currie, Jocelyn Currie, and Avaree, Axton, Aspen and Abbott Miller. He is also survived by one brother Marc (Gleneva) Lorenzen, sister-in-law Elaine Lorenzen,nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents Clifford and Lulu Lorenzen, his sister Verna Letson and his brother Glenn Lorenzen.
Marvin was devoted to his family and thoroughly enjoyed being in the company of his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
