In Memory of Helen Louise Dose

Helen Louise Dose, age 91, of Ida Grove, Iowa passed away on Monday, November 25, 2019, at the Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove, Iowa.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 29, 2019, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa. Rev. Richard A. Salcido will officiate. Committal will follow in the Ida Grove Cemetery of Ida Grove, Iowa. A Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 29, 2019, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa.  The Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Helen Louise (Kruse) Dose, the daughter of Alfred and Louise (Rossow) Kruse, was born December 31, 1927, in Holstein, IA. She was baptized on March 25, 1928, at St. Paul Lutheran Church at Midway (rural Battle Creek, IA) and was confirmed on April 6, 1940, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, IA. Helen’s mother passed away when she was a small child. She lived with her grandparents for several years. Later she grew up living with her aunt Minnie and uncle John Kruse of Ida Grove until she was married. 

On August 16, 1953, Helen was united in marriage to LeRoy Dose at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove. The couple was blessed with three children: Larry, Ellen and Daniel. Helen and LeRoy spent their married life living on a farm north of Ida Grove until LeRoy passed away in 1995. Helen then moved into town.

Helen loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed volunteering at church, teaching Sunday School for 60 years and was a church custodian for 8 years with her daughter-in-law, Marilyn. Helen liked quilting, gardening, hunting and volunteering at the Orphan Grain Train.

Left to cherish her memory include her three children: Larry (Joann) Dose, Ellen (Carl) Schable and Daniel (Marilyn) Dose all of Ida Grove, IA; 8 grandchildren: Steven (Ashley) Schable of Carroll, IA, Eric (Jessica) Schable of Milford, IA, Jason (Allyson) Schable of Ida Grove, IA, Andrew “AJ” (Casie) Schable of Beresford, SD, Benjamin Dose of Omaha, NE, Samuel (April) Dose of Story City, IA, Thomas (Brianna) Dose of Canton, SD and Ashley Dose of Ida Grove, IA; 22 great-grandchildren: Cade, Camryn, Chase and Colt Schable, Aiden and Xander Schable, Taylor, Avery, Lennox and Orion Schable, Adelyn, Mack and Cooper Schable, Isaac, Lily, Caleb and Julia Dose, Abigail, Kiley, Kara, Christopher and Natalie Dose; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husband LeRoy Dose; her parents Alfred and Louise Kruse; foster parents Minnie and John Kruse; in-laws Otto and Esther Dose; brother Lester (Norma) Kruse; sisters-in-law Marie (Paul) Schwanz, Eileen (Leslie) Grell and Darlene (Robert) Boysen.
