In Memory of Gary L. Simon

Gary L. Simon, age 63, of Sutherland, Iowa (formerly of Odebolt, Iowa), passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 30, 2020, at his residence of Sutherland, Iowa. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, September 19, 2020, at the Martin Access Shelter House south of Sutherland, Iowa. Gary Lee Simon, the son of August and Shirley (Martin) Simon, was born on July 20, 1956, in Carroll, Iowa. He grew up in Odebolt, Iowa and received his education from Odebolt-Arthur High School. After high school Gary enlisted in the U.S. Army. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Odebolt.

On September 20, 1985, Gary was united in marriage to Nancy Lippincott in the Methodist church of Arthur, Iowa. The couple was blessed with two children: Lindsay and A.J. Gary worked for various employers over the years and relocated the family to the Sutherland, Iowa, where he was employed at JTV Manufacturing for the last 12 years as a laser operator/fabricator.

Gary enjoyed fishing, canoeing, camping and going for deer rides. He also liked hunting for asparagus and mushrooms. He was passionate about gardening, especially tending to his raspberries. Gary could always be found enjoying a Pibb. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. His grandsons were the light of his life.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife Nancy Simon of Sutherland, IA; daughter Lindsay (Troy Werkmeister) Simon of Sutherland, IA; son A.J. Simon of Sutherland, IA; two grandchildren: Ian and Owen Werkmeister; brothers Mike (Liz) Simon of Odebolt, IA and Jeff (Kathy) Simon of Council Bluffs, IA; sister Sue (John) Simon of Grundy Center, IA; and his faithful companion, dog Lippy.

He was preceded in death by his parents August and Shirley Simon; and brother Pat Simon.
