Kenneth Daniel “Danny” Mefferd, the son of Virgil P. and Marilynn L. (Alvis) Mefferd, was born on November 24, 1956, in Dunlap, Iowa. The family relocated to Battle Creek, Iowa, in 1960 when Danny was just a toddler.
While growing up in Battle Creek, Danny developed a deep appreciation for his community. One of Danny’s favorite things was attending the annual Battle Creek Fourth of July celebration. In 1976 Danny graduated from Battle Creek High School, where during his school years, he developed a love of sports. He enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, and slow pitch softball throughout his life. After graduation, Danny began his driving career. He first drove for the Co-op in Correctionville, then H & W Feeds of Ida Grove, and later for the Co-op in Ida Grove. He then started a sales career with Schwan’s Frozen Food. He became the locally famous “best Schwan’s man ever” and eventually retired due to health issues.
Danny was an avid coin collector. He had an admiration for Ford Mustangs, which he had the pleasure of driving over the years; from his first blue 1970 Mach 1 to his current driver, a 2009 45th anniversary edition. Danny enjoyed playing poker, cheering on the Raiders, Hawkeyes, and Dodgers, and drinking a cold glass of ice tea.
Danny married Ronda Bryant on August 18, 1978. The couple shared 29 years of marriage and 4 beautiful children. The light of Danny’s life were his grandchildren. He treasured spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his father, Virgil Mefferd; children: Derek Mefferd of Battle Creek, IA, Dwan (Nathan) Sahl of Titonka, IA, Dara (Ryan) Moser of Cedar Falls, IA and Davin (Lindsay) Mefferd of Battle Creek, IA; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brothers: Kevin Mefferd of Battle Creek, IA, Randy Mefferd of Sloan, IA, Brian (Julie) Mefferd of Ida Grove, IA and Rick (Sheila) Mefferd of Bonner Spring, KS; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.
