Daniel Roger Nielsen was born on September 20, 1983, at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, to Roger and Joan (Stocks) Nielsen. He passed from his earthly life on November 13, 2022, at UNMC in Omaha, Nebraska.

Dan graduated from BCIG High School and Morningside College (University). He worked at Deron’s FoodTown in Battle Creek, Riddle’s Jewelry in Sioux City, Brodkey Jewelry in Council Bluffs, Riddles Jewelry at Oak View in Omaha and TDAmeritrade/Charles Schwab.

Dan loved his job. He was known for his “dad” jokes at work; especially as he celebrated his 5-year anniversary there last week with his team. He enjoyed playing, coaching, and watching baseball (especially the Chicago Cubs), playing guitars, listening to music and composing, fishing, and smoking ribs. His sense of humor, his love for Ninja Turtles, Mario Brothers and dinosaurs, his caring spirit, and his enthusiasm were his trademark.

He was baptized and confirmed at the St. John Lutheran Church in Battle Creek and was active at Spirit Life Assemblies of God in Omaha.

Survivors include his parents Roger and Joan Nielsen of Battle Creek, IA; soulmate April Reitz and four beloved “cubs”: Clarissa, Mark, Turner, and Edward of Bellevue, NE; aunts, uncles, cousins, many loyal friends, and “adopted” family members.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Chester and Mabel Stocks and Einar and Lucia Nielsen; aunts KayAnn Hazelton and Cindy Nielsen; and cousin Korver Kara Hazelton.

It’s always a shock to our hearts to hear of a friend leaving us. It happens so fast and leaves our thoughts and feelings all torn to bits. I am sad that we will no longer be together with Dan. My heart goes out to his family and the extended family at work. Dan was in my licensing class and I was so happy for him to succeed and grow into his role. With this loss, I hope we all double down on making our relationships in the office more meaningful.

“"We thought of life by analogy with a journey, a pilgrimage, which had a serious purpose at the end... and the thing was to get to that end. Success, or whatever that is, or maybe heaven after you're dead... but we missed the point the whole way along. It was a musical thing, and you were supposed to sing, or to dance while the music was being played " - Alan watts
Psalm 100
1.Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.
2 Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
3 Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
5 For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.
