In Memory of Hans Hoffmeier

Hans Hoffmeier, age 60, of Denison, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at his residence of Denison, Iowa.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 16, 2022, at the Our Savior Lutheran Church of Denison, Iowa. Rev. Chad Trunkhill will officiate. Committal Services will follow in the Oakland Cemetery of Denison, Iowa.  

A Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at the Our Savior Lutheran Church of Denison, Iowa.

Hans Harry Hoffmeier, the son of Harry and Clara (Kruse) Hoffmeier, was born on April 2, 1962, in Denison, Iowa. Hans was a farm boy from the start, with the passion for farming being passed down to him on the family farm located outside of Denison. This is where he first learned to love the land and the livestock that they raised.

During his school years, Hans became fond of the sport of wrestling. Through hard work and dedication to the sport, he qualified to wrestle at the state wrestling tournament. Hans graduated from Denison High School with the class of 1980.

Shortly after graduation, Hans lost his father suddenly and took over the family farming operation. He bought his first farm in 1987 and married the love of his life, Linda Westrom, in the same year on September 5, 1987, in the Our Savior Lutheran Church of Denison. They were blessed with two children, daughter Ashley and son Harrison.

A man of the land, Hans loved everything about farming from tending to the crops to feeding his cattle. This hardworking, honest, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend was always willing to lend a hand. You could often find him on a 4-wheeler, checking cattle with his favorite little sidekick, granddaughter Hannah, who was his pride and joy. Hans was welcomed into his Savior’s arms on December 8, 2022, on the land that he loved.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 35 years, Linda Hoffmeier of Denison, IA; children Ashley (Coltyn) Schmidt of Dow City, IA and Harrison Hoffmeier of Denison, IA; granddaughter Hannah Schmidt; sisters: Janet (Ross) Iversen of Vail, IA, Lena Hoffmeier of Iowa City, IA, Nancy Hoffmeier of Lee, MA, Diane (Glenn) Schiltz of Denison, IA and Karen Schoon, of Ft. Dodge, IA; aunts: Delores Gosch of Mapleton, IA, Loretta Anderson of Denison, IA, Joyce Kruse of Mapleton, IA and Lucille Kruse of Denison, IA; many nieces, extended family and a host of friends.

Hans was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Clara Hoffmeier; brother Darrell Hoffmeier; and many aunts and uncles.
