In Memory of Melvin H. Ladwig
Melvin H. Ladwig, age 85, of Ida Grove, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Ida Grove, Iowa with the Reverend Adam J. Peck & Reverend Richard A. Salcido officiating. Burial will follow in the Morgan Township Cemetery of Schleswig, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday November 12, 2013 at Christensen – Van Houten Funeral Home of Ida Grove, Iowa. Melvin H. Ladwig was born on April 23, 1928 in Goodrich town ship in Crawford county Iowa to Albert and Hulda (Blunk) Ladwig. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith on June 7, 1928 at the Zion Lutheran Church of Denison, Iowa and later confirmed on March 25, 1945.
Melvin married his sweetheart and love of his life, Helen Marie Woebke at the Zion Lutheran Church of Denison on August 14, 1949. They made their home in Denison and were blessed with three children; Ronnie Eugene, Ricky Lee, and Rosetta Mae.
After helping his parents with farming, Melvin and his family moved to a farm east of Sac City, where they made their home for 5 years. They then moved to Ida Grove, where Melvin worked on various farms. He then worked for Mid-west Industries for 6 years before retiring in 1988. During his retirement he enjoyed being a professional painter for 13 years.
Melvin loved and cherished his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, they were the “twinkle” in his eyes and he loved being their gramps. He loved it when they would all gather for special occasions. Melvin was a master craftsman loving carpentry & woodworking making many amazing projects that were cherished by his friends and family.
Besides his family, Melvin enjoyed fishing and playing cards, especially euchre. In their younger years, Melvin and Helen loved traveling around the United States, they have visited all but 6 states.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Helen and his three children, Ronnie (Tricia) Ladwig of Ida Grove, Iowa; Ricky (Valerie) Ladwig of Ida Grove, Iowa; Rosetta (Bruce) Jacobson of Mapleton, Iowa; sisters, Dorothy Furne; Darlene Henkel; Gladys Hoffmeier; 7 grandchildren, Stephanie Ladwig; Scott Jacobson and special friend Andrea Burgess; Ryan (Candi) Ladwig; Melonie (Jason) Petersen; Jon Jacobson; Ross (Christi) Ladwig; and Brandon (Alison) Jacobson; 13 great-grandchildren, Kaden, Kiera, Kya, Kelton Ladwig; Caitlyn and Natalie Jacobson; Liam Jacobson; Avery and Jalee Jacobson; Hallie, Reese, Piper Ladwig; Josiah Ladwig.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Thomas Ira Jacobson, infant brother Vernon and brother Edward Ladwig.
